Poland needs a professional infrastructure to support interest organization, participation and democracy in society. The MATRA COP Project developes education and initiates professional practices in the field of Community Organization.

The work is done by a team of Polish teachers and social workers, supported by their institutions. Dutch colleagues provide them with materials, know how and advice. A Dutch projectmanager and a Polish local coordinator are in charge, supported by administrative staff. The project runs from October 1998 to July 2001 and is located in Gdansk and Poznan.

With these activities, MATRA COP contributes to the modernization of Polish Social Work and Social Work Education; two important actors in the social renewal of this future member state of the European Union.

The project is financially supported by the Social Transition Programme Central and Eastern Europe (MATRA) of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs
